Bryce Boettcher, a two-sport athlete for Oregon, finally got his wish during the Ducks’ 42-27 victory over USC at Autzen Stadium. After repeatedly asking coaches for a chance to handle the ball, Boettcher was called in during the second quarter when Oregon faced first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Lining up behind the center with a heavy defensive package, he powered into the end zone for his first touchdown since high school, extending Oregon’s lead to 28-14.
The senior, who played quarterback at South Eugene High and later joined Oregon as a walk-on while also starring on the baseball team, had visualized this moment all week. Offensive coordinator Will Stein installed the short-yardage play specifically for senior night, making the score even more special. “I was ready,” Boettcher said. “I dreamed about this all week.”
Boettcher’s touchdown capped an emotional day as Oregon honored 17 seniors. His unique journey—from baseball standout to football contributor—made the moment unforgettable. While it’s unlikely he’ll get more carries, head coach Dan Lanning hinted fans might see Boettcher touch the ball again before the season ends.
